Top Reasons to Choose London for Your Study Abroad Experience

Of all the cities in the world, I can’t think of any as exciting as the UK capital for those who make the life-changing decision to study abroad. London’s history, culture, diversity and sheer number of attractions make it the perfect backdrop for the student life.

In addition to those aspects, the other very appealing things about the city are its accessibility and the range of available student accommodation. London life awaits, so here are some of my top reasons to choose to study abroad there.

Great Transport Links

There’s no doubt this is a big, sprawling city, but I’ve always found getting around super easy. The Tube, bus and overground train links are extremely efficient, and no matter where you choose your student accommodation, London is easily navigable. One of my best tips, though, is to get yourself a map and do a lot of walking – you may be surprised just how close and accessible some things are.

Iconic Attractions

Everywhere you turn in in this amazing city you’ll come face-to-face with iconic attractions like Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Tower Bridge, Big Ben, St. Paul’s, the Houses of Parliament, the Shard and so many more. If you take a stroll along the River Thames in Central London you’ll discover many of them are within easy walking distance of each other. The city is so steeped in history that I find I often stumble across famous landmarks quite by accident.

Free Culture

There’s nothing better than finding something free and easily accessible from your student accommodation! London is full of high-profile and smaller galleries, with many of them offering free entry or great student concession prices (although you may have to pay for temporary exhibitions). Whatever your interests, places like the Tate Modern, the British Museum and the National Gallery allow you to enjoy the art and culture without having to dip into your savings.

Gorgeous Green Spaces

The city is also full of fantastic relaxing green spaces that, again, are absolutely free. Some of my favourite memories are of summer picnics with new friends in the beautiful parks and gardens, like Kensington Gardens, St James’ Park, Regent’s Park and, of course, the most famous of all, Hyde Park.

A Multi-Cultural Population

No matter where you choose your student accommodation, London’s wonderful diversity is probably top of the list of great reasons to choose the city for a study abroad experience. It’s the diversity of its population that makes it what it is today, and you’ll have the opportunity to be exposed to new foods and cultures every single day – which I think is a valuable education in itself!

Proximity to the Continent

The UK’s proximity to Continental Europe means that you’re never too far from an exciting weekend away – and it doesn’t cost too much. Cheap flights and the convenience of the Eurostar mean that you can be in Paris, Brussels, Italy or anywhere else in Europe in a matter of hours.

For these and so many more reasons, I highly recommend considering London for your experience studying abroad, whether it’s for a few weeks, a few months or longer.
