The Top 5 Instagrammable Spots in North London

When you’re studying abroad, one of the most enjoyable things is exploring the local area around your student accommodation. London is an Instagram dream if you know where to go.

If you choose the Rathbone Place Apartments or Tufnell House halls of residence for your student accommodation, London’s most exciting neighbourhood is on your doorstep. I highly recommend you seek out these places in the surrounding North London area to share with your friends and family back home.

#1 Daunt Books

For book loving Instagrammers, this chain of independent bookshops is a dream come true. Specialising in travel and travel writing, the range of books is massive, so it’s not too hard to spend a few hours browsing and taking a few selfies in front of the rows and rows of oak shelves. Many people on social media are most familiar with its stunning Edwardian flagship store on Marylebone High Street, but the branches in Hampstead, Holland Park and Belsize Park are just as inspirational and Instagrammable.

#2 The Street Art of Camden Town

The colour and creativity of Camden Town provide the ultimate photographic opportunities. If you start on Camden High Street (at the underground station, which is a couple of tube stops from Tufnell Park) and wander towards Camden Town Lock, you’ll pass some incredible street art on both sides of the road. But if you really want to get those special sharable selfies, make sure you head down all the side streets as well, where you’ll discover some incredible art decorating the sides of buildings and around corners into alleyways. With everything from giant sized murals to lifelike portraits, you won’t know what to post first!

#3 The Kings Cross Tunnel

I had no idea what was hidden in the Kings Cross Tunnel, but it’s actually one of the most amazingly photographic places I’ve discovered. The subway runs between Kings Cross station to St. Pancras International, but it’s more than just a way to get somewhere. The 90-metre length of the tunnel features an ultra-modern art wall, illuminated with striking LED lighting, and it’s an incredible backdrop for photographs. Along with some pretty impressive back-lit selfies, the low lighting creates the perfect setting for some artistic slow motion shots of the passing pedestrians.

#4 Primrose Hill

Adjacent to North London’s more famous Regent’s Park, Primrose Hill also offers a fantastic setting for photographs with the stunning backdrop of the city. You can walk along the canal from Camden Town or through St. John’s Wood and my best tip is to beat the crowds and come up early in the morning or just before sunset. You can capture panoramic shots of the iconic skyline including the London Eye, the BT Tower and the Shard. The area has a lovely village feel is also well known for its celebrity residents, so keep your eyes open.

#5 Highgate Cemetery

This famous 20-hectare Victorian cemetery is full of dark history, famous graves and countless places to capture unique photographs. On the eastern side, you can walk around on your own (or do a guided tour) and stumble across graves of important people like Karl Marx, but you’ll need to do a guided tour if you want to visit the west side. The eerie and overgrown Highgate Cemetery has an atmosphere all its own, which comes across fantastically in photographs. The headstones and crypts here are considered among the finest in the country and it’s an Instagram opportunity not to be missed!

North London is an excellent place to choose for your student accommodation. London is exciting from every angle, and part of the fun is exploring the many places to get amazing photographs to share on Instagram. These are my top five to seek out if you’re staying in the Rathbone Place Apartments or Tufnell House halls of residence, but you’re sure to discover many more of your own as you walk around the local area.
