Get the Most from the Southbank Underbelly Festival

Where are you going to find the most exciting place this summer for student housing? London’s Southbank would be my answer. This stretch on the south side of the River Thames is a centre of culture and entertainment, especially from April to September when the Underbelly Festival is in town.

If you’re staying in Britannia South Bank the festival will be on your doorstep. However, the area is so well connected that you can reach it easily from almost any student housing. London has several transport hubs, and the nearby Waterloo station is one of these: with trains, buses and tubes calling here from almost every part of the city.

Highlights

This outdoor event on the riverside near the South Bank Centre hosts a range of performances including circus acts, music, comedy and theatre.

It’s been running yearly for 11 summers now, and I particularly enjoy the variety of experiences – there’s something happening almost every evening and all weekend. So if you’re staying in Britannia South Bank and you want to go out locally one night you can be sure that something will be happening at the Underbelly Festival.

Student Friendly

For us, the best thing about the event is that it caters to all budgets. Tickets for actual performances are usually less than £20. However, you can also enjoy the festival atmosphere for free. There are plenty of stalls selling tasty dishes and drinks at reasonable prices if all you want to do is to relax with some friends.

Visiting

If you aren’t staying in the nearby hall of residence, don’t worry. You can reach the South Bank from most student housing. London is particularly well connected to the area.

From Rathbone Place and Tufnell House all you have to do is to take the Northern Line to Embankment. You’ll need to cross the footbridge to the other side of the river, but it only takes a few minutes and the views are great.

For residents at Nutford House, your route to Underbelly is equally direct from your student housing. London’s Marylebone Station is where you’ll find the Bakerloo Line which also stops at Embankment.

If you’ve chosen Chapter Spitalfields for your student housing, London Underground’s District Line will take you direct to Embankment.

There is so much going on in the capital and even if it isn’t happening in your neighbourhood, the transport system will get you there in no time. Spending a summer studying in the city will offer you some amazing opportunities to celebrate the good weather with the local residents. Make sure you don’t miss out.

Give us a call at Britannia Student Services for advice on the best locations for your accommodation. Our knowledgeable team can help you choose between a hall of residence, flatshare or homestay, and they can even help you plan your route to any of the festivals in the city with their comprehensive experience of the city’s transport system.
